Laboratory-Scale Hard X-ray Photoemission Spectroscopy (HAXPES) at Temple

The Gray group has successfully built and tested a new lab-based hard x-ray photoelectron spectrometer and diffractometer designed for probing the depth-resolved electronic structure of quantum materials and interfaces.

The new instrument is based on a high-flux high-resolution monochromated 5.4 keV microfocus x-ray source designed at Temple, in collaboration with the Materials Sciences Research Center at SPring-8, Japan.

The x-ray source has been integrated into a versatile system allowing for a full range of angle-resolved studies of solids and interfaces, including core-level and valence-band spectroscopies, Fermi-surface mapping, standing-wave excitation, and element-specific x-ray photoelectron diffraction. The system is the first laboratory-based hard/tender x-ray (5.4 keV) photoemission instrument in the U.S.   [READ STORY]
